Slovenia is one of the newest hosts of Highly pathogenic avian influenza in Europe.
The H5N8 avian influenza virus has been isolated in the carcass of a Mute Swan near a pond in northwestern Ljubljana, according to the World Organization for Animal Health.
The organization has assessed the outbreak as limited to a specific area within the country.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food has increased its alert level due to the outbreak and called on all poultry breeders to take biosecurity measures more seriously.
It should be noted that the rapid spread of a new wave of outbreaks of Highly pathogenic avian influenza in Europe has caused much concern in the continent.
