Chinese researchers have succeeded in producing eggs enriched with folic acid.
The Beijing Institute of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine has published the results of a study according to which the amount of folic acid in the produced eggs has increased up to three times.
Currently, more than 50 countries around the world are implementing policies related to folic acid fortification. However, these researchers claim that they have used the active form of 5-methyl tetahydrofolate in their product, which is easily absorbed by the body.
Researchers in this study have succeeded in increasing the amount of folic acid in each egg to three times the normal level to 116 micrograms.
Research shows that folic acid deficiency in the body can lead to problems such as anemia in pregnant women and fetal neural tube defects.
Chinese government officials believe that the production of such products can provide scientific and technological support to the country to develop the egg production industry.
